Nerd girls are beautiful.

FUCK THIS SO HARD, AND FUCK JOHN GREEN. I am NOT a resource for some *nerd boy’s* romantic fantasy. I am a person. This is dehumanizing and gross, and I am SO OVER seeing it reblogged without any critical commentary.

Honestly. This isn’t ‘romantic’ it’s just condescending pixie-dream-girl bullshit.

He even ADMITTED that the way he phrased this has unfortunate implications, why are people still quoting it?

so are we gonna discuss how fucked up it is that women have to wear makeup to be taken seriously at work and job interviews but if a woman has a genuine interest in and enjoyment of cosmetics she is written off as shallow, vain, and stupid, and consequently not taken seriously

Do they not realize that Hyperbole and a Half is autobiographical so, like… you probably shouldn’t make assumptions about her viewpoints? (Who am I kidding, this was probably made by people with a meager understanding of online pop culture, of course they don’t realize.)

The thing is, marriage is a really basic right, and can you imagine if some other fights for basic rights hadn’t been won?

Like, yeah, woman’s suffrage isn’t the only feminist issue and almost 100 years later we still have so many things to fix for true liberation of women but what if suffragists were too busy worrying about other issues to get us voting rights would you really want that.

(And feminism is obviously still a thing so I feel like the concerns that everyone will stop caring about other queer issues as soon as gay marriage is legal across the USA are somewhat overblown.)

I did a comic about marriage equality…

Literally me right now looking at this glorious piece of art

reblog every time

marriage equality (and mainstream acceptance) definitely doesn’t have ANYTHING to do with those other things nope

TAGGED: also marriage equality is fixed with a single law the others are a million times more complex

This gets at me SO MUCH in these discussions

Marriage equality is about legislation

you can’t legislate away social issues like queer youth suicide, although you can implement legislation designed to help, which I mean, if you don’t think that the fact that ppl being able to get married means healthcare, immigration, etc access, AS WELL AS being a major step towards basically telling bigots “no u don’t get to legislate your bigotry, SORRY NOT SORRY” and therefor you know, fighting homophobia, is the kind of thing that could have any impact on queer youth facing higher rates of depression then idek anymore

Gay marriage is about an act of legislation that is part and parcel of a larger fight, stop acting like it’s its own separate thing radikewls jfc

every day i’m thankful that tumblr will never get into old shoujo at large except to make fun of it because the last thing i want is subversive kawaii about my fandoms

I feel like some old shoujo is subversive kawaii in and of itself.

…is this fandom subversive kawaii a thing in fandoms other than Les Mis?

Teen’s invention could charge your phone in 20 seconds

(Photo: Intel)

Waiting hours for a cellphone to charge may become a thing of the past, thanks to an 18-year-old high-school student’s invention. She won a $50,000 prize Friday at an international science fair for creating an energy storage device that can be fully juiced in 20 to 30 seconds.

Read the complete story.

Everybody, remember this face.
Remember this name.
If this becomes a commonly used & highly lauded discovery, at some point a White guy is going to take credit, even if he has to word it like “Improved upon a previous…”
No no no
Fuck that guy.
Remember this brown girl.

Cozy Classics: Victor Hugo’s Les Misérables (Photoset 1/2)

This is that Les Mis children’s picture book that some people were talking about earlier. As you can see, the pictures are incredible and the way they told the story of Les Mis in just 12 words is beautiful. It cost me only $8.95 and I got it at this one Barnes and Nobles that’s near my house. If you have some extra money, go buy this book; it’s really cute and definitely worth it. :)
